Biography
This eccentric Portland, Oregon, USA indie rock trio was founded in late 2000 by Brent Knopf (1978, Oregon, USA; guitar, keyboards, vocals), Justin Harris (b. 28 March 1977, Oregon, USA; guitar, saxophone) and the lofty mastermind behind Lackthereof, Danny Seim (b. 1977, Oregon, USA; drums). Their self-released 2003 debut, I Am The Fun Blame Monster!, an anagram of the first Menomena album, drew comparisons to Brian Eno and David Byrnes 1981 experimental project My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. Even more investigational was the 2005 follow-up, Under An Hour, which contained three long instrumental pieces commissioned for use at that years Portland Time Based Arts Festival. 2007s post rock-tinged Friend And Foe raised their profile further and the measured chaos of much of this record was mirrored by the striking artwork that housed it, courtesy of revered graphic novelist Craig Thompson.
