Mega City Four

Decades Active: 2000s


Thrash pop outfit from Surrey, England, influenced by early punks such as Stiff Little Fingers and the Buzzcocks, stabilizing their output with a sustained melodicism and growing lyrical awareness. They started out in 1982 as Capricorn, who played a few gigs and recorded demos (including one 15-track affair entitled The Good News Tape). However, in 1986 original drummer Martin left, leaving the remaining members to undergo a rethink. A replacement, Chris Jones, was recruited from local bands Exit East and Moose Kaboose, joining Wiz (Darren Brown, 18 January 1962, England, d. 6 December 2006, London, England; vocals/guitar), his brother Danny Brown (rhythm guitar/vocals) and Gerry Bryant (bass/vocals). Wiz had previously played one gig fronting a progressive rock band, Quilp, before joining Bryant in Capricorn, formed at Guildford technical college.
