Biography

A bluegrass band comprising Dewey McPeak (12 August 1941, Wytheville, Virginia, USA; banjo/guitar/vocals), Larry McPeak (b. Larry James McPeak, 13 July 1947, Wytheville, Virginia, USA; bass/guitar/vocals) and Mike McPeak (b. Michael Eugene McPeak, 4 May 1949, Wytheville, Virginia, USA; guitar/lead vocals). An elder brother, Udell (b. Udell Marion McPeak, 12 June 1935, Wytheville, Virginia, USA; guitar), had been playing in bluegrass music from the mid-50s and worked with the Lonesome Pine Fiddlers, when he joined brothers Dewey and Larry to form the first McPeak Brothers in 1963. He left to join Red Smiley in 1966 and his younger brother, Mike, took his place. They played a weekly show on local radio and at local venues, usually appearing with Ernest Atkins (fiddle) and Gus Ingo (mandolin) (Ingo was later replaced by Mickey Connor).
