Mats Gustaffson & His All-Stars Featuring John Corbett
29 October 1964, Umeå, Sweden. Drawn to the saxophone and to jazz at an early age, Gustafsson was able to hear several leading Swedish jazz musicians during these formative years. He experimented with free improvisation in company with percussionist Kjell Nordeson, who later became a member of the AALY Trio. In the mid-80s, Gustafsson moved to Stockholm where he linked up with Sten Sandell (piano) and Raymond Strid (percussion), forming a group they named Gush. He also played in a duo, Two Slices Of Acoustic Car, with Christian Munthe (guitar). After recording Dolphins Dolphins Dolphins with Nordeson and Per Henrik Wallin in 1991, Gustafsson met Sven-Åke Johansson who was instrumental in introducing him to the very active German improvised music scene.
