Biography

7 January 1949, Spartanburg, North Carolina, USA. Chapman came from a wealthy family and spent time in France before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1973. She signed with Epic Records and toured as a rock act, but found her songs had more favour with country audiences. Her composition, ‘A Woman’s Heart (Is A Handy Place To Be)’, was covered by Crystal Gayle and by Jessi Colter. ‘Somewhere South Of Macon’ was considered too outspoken for country radio. She also achieved notoriety with ‘Don’t Get Me Pregnant’.
