Biography

Mark Alton Masters, 13 November 1957, Gary, Indiana, USA. In the late 70s, Masters studied at Riverside City College, California, then at California State University in Los Angeles. An accomplished trumpet player, he formed his first band in 1982 and became associated in many minds with the music of Stan Kenton, owing to work with Kenton’s Creative World organization. He was involved in the tribute paid to the compositions of Bob Graettinger at the Kenton alumni reunion, Back To Balboa, in 1995, and the similarly titled CD release on MAMA Records. For many years, Masters has been deeply committed to music education, activities that while lowering his international profile, greatly enhanced his importance to the furtherance of jazz.
