Biography

George Mark Collie, 18 January 1956, Waynesboro, Tennessee, USA. Collie was one of six children and he learnt piano and guitar as he was growing up. He wanted to join the army but was prevented by his diabetes. He tried to make it as a musician in both Memphis and Nashville. In 1977 country singer Ray Pillow recorded his song ‘Nighttime Masquerade’, but it was not until 1982 that Collie moved to Nashville permanently. He was heard by MCA executives at the Douglas Corner Cafe, and he made his US country chart debut in 1990 with ‘Something With A Ring To It’. Collie and Don Cook produced what was to be his biggest single, the rockabilly country of ‘Even The Man In The Moon Is Crying’. His debut album of his own compositions showed a talent for playing with words - ‘What I wouldn’t give is more than she could take’ and ‘Where’s there’s smoke, you’ll find my old flame’.
