Biography
31 December 1973, Falkirk, Scotland. Middleton began his musical career playing the guitar in a number of punk bands in the early 90s. It was the formation of indie duo Arab Strap in 1995, however, that brought the multi-instrumentalist to the forefront of the UK music scene. Middletons work with Arab Strap and his own compositions overlap, with his first solo album being released by Chemikal Underground in September 2002, 5:14 Fluoxytine Seagull Alcohol John Nicotine. Originally a home recording project, this debut followed closely the themes of Arab Strap records, with downbeat lyrical subject matter and minimal instrumentation. Middletons trademark thick Scottish accent featured heavily. The album explored a variety of genres, including country on Wake Up and Scottish folk on The Loneliest Night Of My Life Came Calling.
