Biography
Formed in early years of the new millennium in Montreal, this eclectic French Canadian indie rock quintet comprises brothers Julien Mineau (31 March 1981, Quebec, Canada; guitar/vocals) and Francis Mineau (b. 3 September 1979, Quebec, Canada; drums), alongside Thomas Augustin (b. 18 March 1980, Quebec, Canada; keyboards, bass, vocals) and Mathieu Cournoyer (b. 13 September 1980, Quebec, Canada; bass). No commentary on their work would be complete without drawing comparison to the influential and incendiary Welsh psychedelic, genre benders Super Furry Animals. While both acts used a musical template that pushed melodic pop to the forefront, they also shared an enthusiasm for their heritage. By singing exclusively in French, Malajube consciously set themselves apart in the sea of English language acts that dominated the North American alternative scene.
