Biography

Respected US underground producer Madlib (Otis Jackson Jnr.) and emcee MF Doom (b. Daniel Dumile, 9 January 1971, London, England) joined forces in 2004 to offer their superhero-inspired debut, Madvillainy. MF Doom was raised in New York, but is based in Atlanta, Georgia where he has recorded under many different guises, including Zev Love X, King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn as well as MF Doom. The name Doom originates from the way Dumile’s real name is pronounced (‘doom-eel’), and the cartoon character Dr. Doom who was considered a villain but was really a frustrated loner. Dumile was responsible for one of the most controversial albums of the early 90s while he was recording with his now deceased brother Subroc as KMD. Their album, Black Bastards, was considered too provocative by their record label to be released at the time (1994), although this gave it even more underground accolades prior to its eventual release in 2001.
