Biography
Johnson was a blues singer and guitarist based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, who learned a few rudiments of music from his father but was largely self-taught. His career began around the mid-60s when he worked as a backing musician for major blues artists appearing in Atlantas clubs, and in the early 80s he began establishing a reputation with his band, the Houserockers. He works regularly at Blind Willies, Atlantas best-known blues club, both as a band leader (his group is now known as the Shadows) in his own right and as backing guitarist for bigger names. He achieved a measure of international prominence in 1990 with the release of a well-received album on Ichiban; the mixture of blues standards and original material revealed a talented modern blues musician with his roots deep in the tradition.
