Guadalupe Rivera, 30 January 1972, La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico. When Rivera was still a young child, his family relocated to Long Beach, California, where his father, singer Pedro Rivera, ran a recording studio. Although he had been intent on a career in the catering trade, Rivera went to work for his father both in the studio and as a talent scout. In his late teens he began performing as a banda singer, at first using the name El Toro del Corrido (his uncle had been a professional boxer known as El Toro Rivera). He began recording and from around 1993, he used his own name. He became very popular in the south-western states and also in Mexico and his numerous records have proved to be very popular.
