Sao Paulo, Brazil. Souza was born into a musical family; her father is composer-guitarist Walter Sanot, her mother composer Tereza Souza. Widely respected by jazz instrumentalists with whom she has worked for her technical skill and musicianship, she has built her career to date on the twin footings of Brazilian music and jazz, reflecting her division of her time between her homeland and her second home in New York City.
Among jazz artists with whom Souza has performed are pianists Bruce Barth, Fred Hersch and Edward Simon, bass player Scott Colley, guitarists Romero Lubambo, Marco Pereiro and her father, saxophonists Chris Cheek, Donny McCaslin and Steve Wilson, and drummers Jeff Ballard, Brian Blade and Clarence Penn. Souza has also performed duets with singer Karrin Allyson.
