Formed in Harlem, New York, USA, this R&B trio comprising Lisa Lisa (Lisa Velez, 15 January 1967, New York City, New York, USA; vocals), Mike Hughes (guitar) and Alex ‘Spanador’ Moseley (guitar) was put together and produced by rap crew Full Force. The trio was signed to Columbia Records in 1985 and recorded their debut single, ‘I Wonder If I Take You Home’, only a week after forming. The single, which rose to the Top 10 in the US R&B charts and the national UK Top 20, was produced, written and recorded with the complete Full Force aggregation - only in concert did Lisa Lisa work strictly in the reduced trio format. Lisa Lisa And Cult Jam continued to achieve US Top 10 singles in the national and dance charts throughout the late 80s, including two number 1 hits in 1987, ‘Head To Toe’ and ‘Lost In Emotion’. Their self-titled 1985 debut was only moderately successful, but 1987’s Spanish Fly reached the US Top 10....
