Biography
The original line-up of this cutting-edge US alt rock band was drawn from various locales. Singer Angus Andrew is from Melbourne, Australia, guitarist Aaron Hemphill from Los Angeles, while bass player Pat Nature aka Pat Noecker and drummer Rob Albertson both hailed from Nebraska. Forming in late 2000, the quartet began playing around New York shortly after the dawn of the new year, as they honed their original sound and approach (which combines electronic experiments with melodic post-punk rock). The quartets acclaimed debut, They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top, was produced by Steve Revitte and issued via the New Jersey-based Gern Blandsten label. Early in 2002 Liars signed a new recording contract with Blast First (a subsidiary of Mute Records), who in turn reissued the bands debut release.
