Biography

The origins of this Californian quintet date back to 1983 when Michael Olivieri (vocals, guitar), Geoff Gayer (guitar), Carey Howe (guitar), Matt Hurich (bass) and Dean Roberts (drums) were at high school together. Influenced by a range of styles, from hard rock to jazz, they recorded a self-titled, five-track mini-album that attracted the attention of Island Records. Matt Hurich was replaced by Paul Carman before they left to record their second album in the Bahamas, under the guidance of REO Speedwagon producer Kevin Beamish. Street Ready avoided the pitfalls of their previous release, and saw the band developing their own identity, as they gingerly ventured into the pop metal crossover market. Beamish achieved a harder and more powerful sound this time, but with an added dimension of accessibility and the potential for commercial success. Ultimately, however, this remained unrealized, with Leatherwolf disintegrating before the start of the new decade.
