Biography

In the wake of Bikini Kill’s split during the late 90s, singer-songwriter Kathleen Hanna took little time to get back in the ‘Riot Grrrl’ ring with Julie Ruin, and soon afterwards, Le Tigre. While the former project proved to be a one-off, Le Tigre was a more permanent and exciting proposition which applied electronica’s cut-and-paste aesthetic to the raw punk energy of Riot Grrrl. Joining Hanna originally were Johanna Fateman (guitar/electronics) and Sadie Benning (guitar/electronics), the line-up featured on Le Tigre’s self-titled debut in 1999. Following the release of the From The Desk Of Mr. Lady EP in 2001, J.D. Samson was brought in as a replacement for Benning who had left to concentrate on her art career. Samson had previously collaborated with the trio on their striking multimedia live show.
