30 June 1941, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Larry Hall was responsible for one Top 20 hit, 1960’s ‘Sandy’. He first recorded the Terry Fell composition in 1959 for the tiny Hot 1 label. The rocking number went nowhere until the New York-based Strand label picked it up for distribution and the single went to number 15 in the US. Hall recorded another single, ‘A Girl Like You’, but it failed to chart. His subsequent efforts for the label also met with little response and after a few singles for the Gold Leaf label, Hall disappeared from the music scene. The one album he recorded for Strand, Sandy And Other Larry Hall Hits, is a valuable collectors’ item.
