US heavy metal band formed in 1990 by Virginia Commonwealth University students Mark Morton (guitar), Chris Adler (drums) and John Campbell (30 September 1972, USA; bass). After various comings and goings owing to educational commitments, second guitarist Abe Spear and vocalist Randy Blythe completed the bands first stable line-up. Going under the confrontational title of Burn The Priest, the quintet spent several years playing live and recording demos that reflected a solid grounding in thrash and death metal. They finally completed their self-titled album, released on the Legion Records label in 1998, but the rough and ready collection of death and thrash metal on offer attracted little interest.
