Biography

Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. Roots singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kris Delmhorst is a classically trained cellist who is also an adept fiddle player. She learned the latter instrument during a spell hitchhiking in Ireland, an experience she fitted in around studying for a degree and working on farms, bakeries and ocean-going boats. Delmhorst moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the mid-90s where she began laying the foundations for a solo career. She debuted in the late 90s with the independently released Appetite, promoting the album with a busy touring schedule that took her all around the USA and over the seas to Europe. One of the album’s best tracks, ‘Weathermen’, appeared on the same year’s benefit compilation Respond. Delmhorst’s impressive work rate also saw her appearing as a supporting player for other artists and inaugurating a number of side projects, including the Vinal Avenue String Band. The Oddlot EP,...
