Biography
Named after US baseball Hall Of Fame member Sandy Koufax (a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 60s), the quirky alt pop outfit Koufax is comparable to what Ben Folds would sound like if he traded in his baby grand piano for a Moog synthesizer. The bands leader Robert Suchan (vocals, guitar) was joined by Sean Grogan (synthesizer, keyboards), Andrew Cameron (bass, piano, keyboards), and Dave Shettler (drums, synthesizer, vocals). Their self-titled four-track EP surfaced the same year as their formation (both in 1999), and by the release of the following years album debut (and first for new label Vagrant), It Had To Do With Love, Koufax had recruited additional keyboard player Jared Rosenberg. The five-man line-up proved to be short-lived, and by the time the bandsSocial Life saw the light of day in 2002, they had slimmed back down to a quartet.
