Biography
Initially known as the Edge and specializing in Top 40 cover versions, Doug Pinnick (3 September 1950, Braidwood, Illinois, USA; bass/vocals), Ty Tabor (b. 17 September 1961, Jackson, Mississippi, USA; guitar) and Jerry Gaskill (b. 27 December 1957, Bridgeton, New Jersey, USA; drums) relocated to Houston, Texas, USA, in 1985, and were taken under the wing of ZZ Top video producer, Sam Taylor. Under Taylors guidance, they concentrated on their own material and changed their name to Kings X. After recording demos and being turned down by several major record companies in the USA, they finally secured a recording contract with the independent Megaforce label. Out Of The Silent Planet, with its unique sound and offbeat approach, emerged in 1988 to widespread critical acclaim.
