Biography
Coming from a bluegrass background, King Wilkie (named after Bill Monroes horse) create a modern sound technically removed from bluegrass, though its influence is still readily apparent in their acoustic folk/pop/country amalgam. The band came together in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, in 2003 with Reid Burgess (vocals/mandolin) and John McDonald (vocals/guitar) working the front, along with Ted Pitney (guitar), Nick Reeb (fiddle), Abe Spear (banjo), and Jake Hopping (acoustic bass). Despite their shared love of traditional bluegrass sounds, the band quickly realized that their muse was leading them well beyond the styles boundaries, towards a sound closer to reflective, singer-songwriter-orientated folk rock with bluegrass instrumentation.
