St Johns, Newfoundland, Canada. Stockwood began writing songs late in life. She had originally attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Memorial University in 1988. Afterwards she worked with friend Doug Randle on a basic set of rockabilly songs. It was Randle who encouraged her to perform at St. Johns local folk club, Bridgets, on amateur night. Encouraged by the response, she put her own band together shortly afterwards, playing the occasional original alongside material which incorporated everything from Jimi Hendrix to Edie Brickell to Hank Williams. After moving to Toronto to further her singing career she initially worked as an advertising copywriter, before being asked to audition by EMI Music Publishing Canadas president Michael McCarty. Her debut album, Bonavista, was produced by Jim Rondinelli and included Stockwood co-compositions with Randy Bachman, Johnny Douglas and several others. It was initially...
