Michael Trost Depedro, 27 July 1979, Caracas, Venezuela. Name checking artists as disparate as the Swans, the Jesus And Mary Chain, Joy Division, Coil, N.W.A. , Locust, Matmos, Steve Reich and Gavin Bryars, Kid 606 creates ‘emo-jungle-digital-indie-trashy-punk-noisey-wicked-electro-techno-hardcore-IDM-soul.’ The laptop superstar made a great statement of intent when he polemically named a track ‘Luke Vibert Can Kiss My Indie-Punk Whiteboy Ass’ (on 2000’s Down With The Scene) after the musician behind the Plug and Wagon Christ alter-egos. The sleeve to the same album also bore the slogan ‘I hope you die before you become a DJ.’ Such hectoring could be grating but Kid 606 walks it like he talks it. He claims that, fuelled by massive depression, horrible social skills and school troubles, he got into recording to make ‘anti-music’. He bought his first sampler at the age of 14 and released his first record two years later....
