20 June 1958, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. After studying at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music from where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in Vocal Jazz Performance, Johnson took private lessons with Mark Murphy and Jessie Hauck. Other formal education included attaining Associate of Arts, 1993, at University of Washington, Seattle, and Bachelor of Arts, American Music History, 2001. Although she still performs in the Midwest, and in New York City, Johnson is based in Seattle, Washington, and a large part of her performing schedule is in the Pacific Northwest. Established in the region as a gifted jazz singer, Johnson is also an accomplished balladeer. This combination, of a swinging modern jazz song stylist and a warm and polished interpreter of the great standards, makes Johnson a performer whose name should be far better known in the world outside her chosen milieu.
