26 May 1971, Austin, Texas, USA. This country singer-songwriter began to develop his ambitions in the music industry when in his mid-teens he purchased a second-hand guitar and an instruction book. Almost immediately, he formed a local country band and played impromptu concerts in the vicinity. In testament to his agricultural roots, he then founded a group with fellow members of the Future Farmers Of America. This group won a major national talent contest and performed in front of over 25, 000 as headline act at the FFA Nationals in Kansas City. Gattis then pursued a degree in Performing Arts Technology, while developing his songwriting. This course allowed him access to the school studio, where he spent much of his time. Eventually he moved to Nashville to take a job at a steel guitar shop.
