With miasmic talent, genre-bounding vision, and eardrum-restructuring volume, Keijo Haino has perfected a singular and monumental psychedelic noise guitar since the early '70s. Masked by an austere rock star pose of long hair and dark sunglasses, Haino seems to have broken all separation between his psychotically fired synapses and his Marshall stacks. Over the course of decades and several projects--including the manic power trio Fushisusha and the covers project Aihiyo among many others--the Japanese guitarist has fused free-jazz, noise, psychedelia, garage, and Krautrock as one of the principal architects and leading ambassadors of Japanoise. His relentless and restless muse has also led to multifarious collaborations with the likes of John Zorn and Boris and to sounds as diverse as industrial noise, solo percussion, and hurdy-gurdy meditations.
