Biography
Vasquez is a German-American DJ from Pennsylvania, allegedly born Donald Mattern in 1949. He found his induction into the world of dance music as a (reluctant) dancer at Larry Levans Paradise Garage. He soon decided the life of a DJ was for him. He applied himself to his apprenticeship, working his way up the ladder via shops (working at Downstairs Records in the early 80s where he first met friends such as Shep Pettibone), clubs and house parties (notably the Kiss FM bashes), until he had built his own following. This allowed him to put together his own clubs - starting with the Hearthrob nights at the Funhouse, then the Basline, and finally the Sound Factory club (owned by Christian Visca). One of New Yorks premier nights, it quickly saw Vasquezs reputation as a fiercely hot turntable operator soar.
