Biography

This early 90s rap collective, whose title actually stands for Junior Masters At Finding Intelligent Attitudes, featured four acts from the Brooklyn, New York, USA area - MC Klepto, the 666s (Little Caesar, Chico and Nino Brown), the Snakes (cousins Trife and Larceny), and Lil’ Kim. Most attention surrounded the latter artist, widely hailed as a natural successor to MC Lyte via her considerable dexterity on the microphone. The crew’s debut single together, ‘Player’s Anthem’, became a major R&B hit in 1995 with sales certified gold. On the album that accompanied it the rhythms were located at a mid-point between hip-hop and soul, with ‘Backstabbers’ proving particularly articulate in this musical climate.
