Biography

1 February 1979, Lancaster, South Carolina, USA. Country singer Roberts began performing as a child, touring around the southern states as part of a vocal group with her mother and aunt. After high school she ended up at Belmont University in Nashville where she began playing with a small combo on the local bar circuit. To pay the wages she took an office position with Mercury Nashville, ending up as assistant to label head Luke Lewis. Her demo tape made its way to Mercury via a circuitous route and, to his great surprise, Lewis learned that the artist he was interested in signing was actually his assistant. Roberts duly signed a recording contract with Mercury in 2003 and quit her day job. Several of the songs on her demo made it onto her debut album, although none of Roberts’ original compositions made the cut.
