Biography
Alberto Aguilera Valadés, 7 January 1950, Parácuaro, Michoacán, Mexico. Valadés was raised by his mother following the death of his father before his birth. He attended boarding school in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, but left to work as a craftsman at the age of 13. Already a budding songwriter, he began his performing career on local television using the moniker Adán Luna. He subsequently performed in local nightclubs under this name, before securing a recording contract with RCA Records in 1971, a partnership that has already lasted over 25 years. Changing his name to Juan Gabriel, he gradually established himself as one of Mexicos leading songwriters, penning mariachi hits for leading Latin artists including Estela Nuñez, Angélica María, and Enriqueta Jiménez.
