Biography
2 October 1961, Turrell, Arkansas, USA. Whites parents were amateur musicians that encouraged their daughter, who knew Dolly Parton songs before she could read, in her love of music. Taking Linda Ronstadt as a role model, White was in local bands as a teenager and she recorded jingles and beer store commercials. She was raised in Mishawaka, Indiana but moved to Nashville at the age of 19 with $200 and a dilapidated car. She recorded a demo for songwriter/session musician Mike Henderson, and Mr Man In The Moon became a country hit for Patty Loveless. Henderson wrote several tracks on Whites 1992 debut, Between Midnight & Hindsight, issued by Columbia Records as Joy White. It was impressive but none of the singles, Little Texas, True Confessions (written by Marty Stuart and featuring his guitar) and Cold Day In July, were big US country singles.
