17 May 1976, Houston, Texas, USA. Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Holland imparts a unique spin on a variety of genres, fusing folk, country, blues and jazz into an intensely personal musical statement. Growing up in Houston, Holland began writing songs at an early age and by her late teens was proficient on the piano, violin and guitar. She began performing in the mid-90s, spending time in both her native Texas and San Francisco, California, before relocating to Vancouver, Canada, where she helped form newgrass outfit the Be Good Tanyas. Holland was present for the recording of the unit’s 2000 debut, Blue Horse, but had parted company with the other members owing to creative differences by the time the album eventually hit the stores.
