Biography
John Dillard Lytle, 13 October 1932, Springfield, Ohio, USA. A gifted percussionist, Lytle has played drums and, most notably, vibraphone with several well-known leaders. His early engagements included spells with Ray Charles and Gene Ammons and he later led his own bluesy small groups, often using top-flight jazzmen, such as Frank Wess and Ron Carter. During the 60s Lytle followed a current stylistic trend for small organ combos which proved popular. In addition to performing, Lytle has also taught and composed music. Although his career has been relatively low-key, Lytles skill as a vibraphone player is high and his albums worth hunting out.
