Biography

John Washington Dollar Jnr., 8 March 1922, Kilgore, Texas, USA, d. 13 April 1986, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. In the 50s, Dollar worked on radio in Dallas and Shreveport, at one time fronting a band named the Texas Sons. During the 60s he moved away from rock ‘n’ roll to become a shortlived country star, recording for Columbia Records, Dot Records, Date and Chart. He registered six minor hits and a Top 15 with ‘Stop The Start Of Tears In My Heart’. His last chart entry, ‘Truck Driver’s Lament’, was a minor hit in 1970. In the early 80s, Dollar basically quit performing to work for a record company that specialized in custom recordings. It is believed he was suffering from cancer when he committed suicide in 1986. Not to be confused with the R&B/blues artist of the same name, born John Sibley.
