|Decades:||1980s 1990s 2000s|
7 January 1963, Paterson, New Jersey, USA. Encouraged by his pianist father, Colianni studied piano and trumpet from the mid-70s. By the end of that decade, he had decided to concentrate on piano. He worked professionally with bass player Keter Betts and then, in the early 80s, joined Lionel Hampton with whom he toured extensively during a two-year spell. Based in New York from the early 80s, Colianni worked with many artists, including Harry Allen, Woody Allen, Oliver Jackson and Mel Tormé. In addition to his considerable skills as a thoughtful, listening accompanist, Colianni is also a gifted soloist whose work demonstrates his awareness of jazz piano styles dating far back before his time.
