Biography
27 February 1965, New Rochelle, New York, USA. Playing piano as a very small child, Calderazzo studied classically from the age of eight. Although his studies directed him along a classical path, he also studied with Richie Beirach and played bop with his drummer brother, Gene Calderazzo. He began playing jazz professionally, but was working in a fairly undemanding setting when, in 1987, he met Michael Brecker who had a clinic at Long Island University in Brooklyn. He sat in with Brecker who returned the compliment at Calderazzos regular weekly hotel gig. Then, when Kenny Kirkland left Breckers band, he was called in as replacement. In addition to Brecker, Calderazzo has played and recorded with Branford Marsalis, Bob Belden, Jerry Bergonzi, Rick Margitza, Bob Mintzer and Dave Stryker.
