Biography

1936, Paulsboro, New Jersey, USA, d. 13 May 1981. Joan Weber had a number 1 hit in the USA in January 1955, but was unable to follow up that success. The record was "Let Me Go Lover", released on Columbia Records. Weber was 18 when she met manager Eddie Joy, who brought her to Charles Randolph Grean (a "one-hit-wonder" himself in the late 60s), who worked in A&R at the famed Brill Building in New York. Grean gave Weber's demo tape of a song called "Marionette" to Mitch Miller at Columbia, who signed her to the label. Miller took a song titled "Let Me Go, Devil" and had it rewritten as "Let Me Go Lover", which Weber recorded. Performed on the television program Studio One, the song became an immediate success, selling half a million copies and reaching the top of the chart in the USA and peaking at number 16 in the UK.
