17 March 1943, Pontotoc, Mississippi, USA. Weatherly has been a professional songwriter since 1971. His composition Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye) was a US country hit for Bob Luman and then a pop hit for Gladys Knight And The Pips. Ray Price, who has recorded over 50 Weatherly songs, had a number 1 country hit with Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me, which was again covered for the pop market by Gladys Knight And The Pips. Weatherly recorded his own Midnight Plane To Houston for Jimmy Bowens Amos label. Cissy Houston had originally wanted to record a soul version, but felt Midnight Train To Houston by Cissy Houston did not sound right and, with Weatherlys permission, changed it to Midnight Train To Georgia.
