18 January 1969, Chicago, Illinois, USA. As a guitarist, composer and producer he is a leading figure on the American avant garde scene. O’Rourke has been exploring the boundaries of the jazz, rock, ambient and classical fields since the late 80s, and his prolific work rate as solo artist, collaborator, producer and engineer is only hinted at in his discography. A precociously talented guitarist from a young age, O’Rourke first began recording his own tapes while a student at DePaul University. These home demos brought him to the attention of several avant garde musicians with whom he subsequently collaborated, including Derek Bailey, Henry Kaiser and Eddie Prévost.
