Biography

Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. Moray emerged in the new millennium as one of the most striking voices on the UK’s new folk scene. The singer was introduced to traditional music by his folk-loving parents at a young age, but veered towards rock in his teenage years, playing guitar and drums with various bands around Stafford. In 1999, he started a four-year degree course in music composition at Birmingham Conservatoire and began performing as a solo artist at local folk clubs. By now recording at home on a four-track machine, Moray returned to the traditional songs of his childhood as a springboard for his musical experiments. In 2001, he made the finals of the BBC’s Young Folk Musician Of The Year, and the following year received a nomination for Best Newcomer in the main awards. The I Am Jim Moray EP was followed in June 2003 by the album Sweet England, with both being released on the Niblick Is A Giraffe (NIAG) label. Comprising traditional material...
