Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. Moray emerged in the new millennium as one of the most striking voices on the UK’s new folk scene. The singer was introduced to traditional music by his folk-loving parents at a young age, but veered towards rock in his teenage years, playing guitar and drums with various bands around Stafford. In 1999, he started a four-year degree course in music composition at Birmingham Conservatoire and began performing as a solo artist at local folk clubs. By now recording at home on a four-track machine, Moray returned to the traditional songs of his childhood as a springboard for his musical experiments. In 2001, he made the finals of the BBC’s Young Folk Musician Of The Year, and the following year received a nomination for Best Newcomer in the main awards.
