Biography

Jovan Kampbell, 13 November 1990, St. Louis, Missouri, USA. This St. Louis-based rapper made his mainstream breakthrough in 2006 with ‘Chain Hang Low’ when he was still a few months short of his sixteenth birthday. The young Kampbell began rapping at an early age, collaborating with his brother DJ Beats, who had already established a reputation by providing beats for leading rappers Nelly and Chingy. In tandem with his nascent rapping career, Kampbell was also a promising young boxer, winning two Golden Glove championships in his early teens. He chose to pursue a rap career, however, joining the St. Louis-based crew the Little Louies and working the local club circuit. With the help of his brother he signed a solo contract with Geffen Records and began work on his debut album. ‘Chain Hang Low’ was promoted as the obvious first single, boosted by a catchy backing track courtesy of DJ Beats.
