9 January 1962, Wolcott, Connecticut, USA. As a child Molaskey heard on record and admired singers such as Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney and Joni Mitchell, and on later hearing Barbara Cook was prompted into a career as a singer. When she was 18 she moved to New York City where she joined the cast of Agnes De Milles revival of Oklahoma! Although this was as an ensemble player, she quickly began establishing her name in featured roles in musical theatre, appearing on Broadway in Chess, Cats, Les Misérables, Crazy For You, City Of Angels, Parade, Tommy, Dream, and A Man Of No Importance. She also performed in national touring productions of 3hree, Time & Again, The Book Of The Night, and Songs For A New World. In addition to her on-stage performances, in some instances Molaskey also appeared on cast recordings.
