Biography
12 November 1964, Tillamook, Oregon, USA. As a youngster, Kilgore was devoted to the Bakersfield sounds of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard and although his music is contemporary, these influences permeate his work. Kilgore received his first guitar in 1976 but he did not start playing in a band until 10 years later. For some years he worked in Arizona and North Carolina, arriving in Nashville in 1991. He wrote the country hits, ‘Love Lessons’ (Tracy Byrd) and ‘Cover You In Kisses’ (John Michael Montgomery). He also wrote ‘Leavin’ Comin’ On’ for Mark Wills and ‘If A Man Ain’t Thinking (’Bout His Woman)’ for Clay Walker. In 1999, Kilgore was the first male artist to be signed to Virgin Records’ Nashville operation, but Love Trip was a credible recording but not the album to break either artist or record company (Virgin Nashville) into the country mainstream.
