Biography
Jermaine Dupri Mauldin, 23 September 1972, Asheville, North Carolina, USA. Dupri has established a reputation as one of the leading contemporary US producers. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where his father, Michael Mauldin, acted as road manager for local groups. His fathers connections led to breakdancing slots for artists such as Diana Ross and Cameo. He also performed as the opening act at New Yorks Fresh Festival, on a bill featuring Whodini, Run-DMC and Grandmaster Flash. Although he was barely in his teens, Dupri knew that he wanted to establish a career in record production. He gained early experience promoting and producing the anodyne female trio Silk Tymes Leather, who released one flop album, 1989s It Aint Where Ya From... Its Where Ya At, on Geffen Records.
