4 November 1976, California, USA. Pelt began playing trumpet while still at elementary school, studying classical music. Later, in high school, he began playing jazz after hearing Miles Davis for the first time. On leaving school he attended the Berklee College Of Music, studying Film Scoring and other elements of music, graduating in 1998 with a BA. Meanwhile, he had been playing semi-pro gigs and after Berklee he went to New York. Very soon, he had built up an impressive roster of artists with whom he had played. Among them were Gary Bartz, Bobby Bland, Ravi Coltrane, Roy Hargrove, Winard Harper, Jimmy Heath, Vincent Herring, Greg Osby, Charlie Persip, Mickey Roker, and Bobby Short. Pelt had also played in several big bands, including the Village Vanguard Orchestra, the Next Legacy Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.
