Heidi Stern, 29 September 1960, New York City, New York, USA. Rush studied piano, violin and singing before starting her pop career. She went to Europe in 1969, when her father, the opera singer Maurice Stern, took an engagement at the Flensburg Opera in northern Germany. She subsequently settled in Wiesbaden, Germany, but moved back to America in the early 70s. A return to Germany came at the beginning of the 80s, working as a secretary for the US Army in Harlaching, Bavaria. Her career in popular music was hallmarked by the spectacular success of ‘The Power Of Love’, an emphatic MOR ballad that became a major worldwide hit. It reached number 1 in the UK charts in June 1985, re-entering the Top 60 nearly 18 months later in December 1986.
