John Benitez, 7 November 1957, the Bronx, New York City, New York, USA. This renowned Manhattan club DJ made his mark as one of the US post-disco dance music scene’s most favoured remixers/producers. From the mid-80s onwards he ventured into the pop mainstream, working with Whitney Houston, the Eurythmics, Sting, Sheena Easton, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Julio Iglesias, and Rubén Blades among others. Eventually he would earn his own record contract, though his modus operandi did not change, maintaining instead a largely supervisory role on his output. Jellybean’s debut release under his own name was the 1984 EP, Wotupski!?!, which carried two minor dance classics, ‘The Mexican’ and ‘Sidewalk Talk’.
