12 October 1955, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This singer/composer stands outside the traditional boundaries of folk music, being compared to artists such as Laurie Anderson, Joni Mitchell and Suzanne Vega. Having graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Microbiology, Siberry began by performing on the local coffee house circuit in Canada. Her first, independently produced album was released in 1980 and followed by a Canadian tour. She financed the project by earning tips working as a waitress. No Borders Here included ‘Mimi On The Beach’, an underground hit at home in Canada. The Speckless Sky went gold in Canada, and won two CASBYS, Canada’s People Choice Award, for both album and producer of the year. Siberry made her first live appearance in Europe, following the release ofThe Walking, at the ICA in London. The Walking marked her recording debut for Reprise Records.
